Why Sponsor a Home Chef Cooking Competition? Cooking with Passion is a competitive cooking event for intended to support the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia by raising funds and collecting of non perishable foods at each of cooking event. Your efforts in supporting Cooking with Passion help put food on the tables of families who are most in need.
Competition Details
Preliminary preparations: Each competitor has to supply their own knives, Passion the Restaurant will provide all other cooking utensils. All dry goods, produce, meats and seafood stocked by the restaurant will be available for use to each competitor. Each competitor is permitted to bring in their own appliances and may bring in fruits and vegetables not stocked by the restaurant. Competitors will also be permitted to used well liquors and liquerers stocked in our bar.
The competition: At the beginning of the competition, Cooking with Passion hostess, Kristen Crowley , will reveal a "Mystery Ingredient" for the competitors to use as the main ingredient in their dish. They will then be provided 30 minutes to construct a strategy for dish preparation with their sous chef and begin preparation if ready. At the end of the 30 minutes, the contestants will be give 1 hour to prepare and plate their dish. Only one plate will be used so each competitor will need to decide what types of sides and how many sides to plate with the mystery ingredient. At the end of the 1 hour, each competitor will have plated 3 of their dishes, one for each judge. Each competitors plate will be judged as follows:
Creativity: Ingenuity of the Mystery Ingredient, and level of complexity: Score 1-10
Appearance (Plating): Score 1-5
Flavor: Score 1-10
Maximum possible score per judge is 25 points, maximum for each dish is 75 points. The dish with the highest score will be declared the winner and move on to the semi-final competition in August. At the end of the 3rd elimination round in July, the Judges will select on of the 3 competitors eliminated in their event to participate in the semi-final round. The winner of the semi-final will move on to the Final competition scheduled for September.

Semi-Final Rounds 1 & 2 : 14 August
Final Round: 18 September
The Television premier of the filmed competitive events is scheduled for airing on July 10 2011 at 7:30 PM.
The public is invited to attend the competition. Cooking with Passion supports the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia so if you do plan on attending, please bring with you canned goods for donation at the restaurant.
