About Villa Appalaccia Winery

A unique experience of Virginia Wine and Virginia Wineries is defined by Villa Appalaccia Winery. Located on the Blue Ridge Parkway close to Floyd VA, Greensboro and Winston-Salem NC and Roanoke VA. The winery features an Italian Villa, situated with stunning views and a relaxing environment and one mile from Chateau Morrisette Winery and 5 miles from Primland. Villa Appalaccia predominantly grows Italian grape varieties and make award-winning Virginia Wine from Sangiovese, Primitivo, Pinot Grigio, Malvasia wines as well as extraordinary Cabernet Franc and Aglianico. This year, they are planning on the release of their first Corvina (Amarone) in the USA! Their vineyard is one of the few in VA not planted on clay but shale (Gallestro), with the result that our Virginia Wine is unique and true to the Italian heritage. They have a wood-fired brick oven for special-event weekends, an Italian music garden for relaxation and entertainment and as always, our Bocce court is available.

PINOT GRIGIO 2007

The most imported wine into the USA! Villa Appalaccia's Pinot Grigio is as good as they come and is well reviewed by the Wine Spectator. Crisp, very mature fruit with tropical notes of mango, pears and almond. A great match for most Mediteranean foods or just to sip. The cool nights and warm days in our high altitude vineyard preserve the classic features of this great white wine.

SIMPATICO

Villa Appalaccia's version of the Roman classic wine, Frascati! A spicy, floral blend of 3 grapes. Malvasia Bianca (30%), Pinot Grigio (5%) and Trebbiano (65%).This is well balanced white with gentle acidity, it has a natural affinity for Thai and Asian foods, creamy French cheese and even vinaigrette salad dressing! It is also wonderful on the deck!

TOSCANELLO, 2005

The closest you can get to a modern Tuscan Chianti. This is Villa Appalaccia's best selling wine and for good reason. It has everything a meal needs. Blended from Cabernet Franc (65%), Sangiovese (20%) and Primitivo (15%), this wine is rich in plum and tobacco notes, great to cook with as well as in a marinade. Toscanello ages well but is a great drink now. A fine traditional Italian red made in Virginia.

The "Grande" Finale

Classic Pungo Strawberry Shortcake with Chantilly Cream

The name says it all......, we don't have to explain....

RASPBERRY BERET

What a fantastic aperitif!  The only thing missing is the seeds! A great desert wine made with 100% raspberries with a natural affinity for chocolate. 5% residual sugar but well balanced by the acidity of the fruit. 12% alcohol for a very complex finish
